Codex Ambassadors

Shape how the world builds with Codex, starting in your community.

Codex Ambassadors are event organizers, content creators, and power users who bring builders together and bring community perspectives to OpenAI.

About the program

Our mission is to connect local communities through the possibilities of AI and elevate the people shaping how the world builds with Codex and OpenAI products.

The program runs for six months. We require all our ambassadors to make at least one useful contribution each month, through an event or content, and to follow program guidance.

We look for ambassadors who live by our program values:

  • Community first: You stay connected to your community’s interests and needs, and shape your events and content around them.
  • Open to all: You create inclusive spaces, in person and online, where builders from different backgrounds, perspectives, and levels of experience can come together, learn, and feel inspired.
  • Stay curious and helpful: You explore what’s new with Codex and what’s possible to build, and share what you create and learn.

Choose your path

Join the Codex Ambassador program and go down the Event path, Content path or both.

Event Path

You’re a trusted voice in your local tech community. You love to bring people together and create high-quality experiences where people can connect, learn, and leave inspired to build.

This path is right for you if:

  • Prior experience hosting events is preferred, especially for events with 50 or more attendees. Share previous event pages or social recaps.
  • You understand the ins and outs of running an event, from finding a venue and coordinating with vendors to inviting and hosting attendees.
  • You love Codex and are passionate about sharing it with your local community.

Content Path

You’re someone who gets an idea and immediately wonders how far Codex can take it. You love to experiment, share what you build, and inspire others to see what AI can make possible in their own work and lives.

This path is right for you if:

  • You’re an avid builder with Codex and can share public examples of your projects, workflows, or experiments.
  • You like to turn what you create into useful demos or posts that other builders can learn from.
  • You can make at least one useful content contribution each month; timely takeaways after major feature and model releases count toward it.

Support from OpenAI

Codex Ambassadors receive:

  • A Pro subscription, plus Codex and API credits.
  • Opportunities to share feedback directly with the OpenAI team and help shape the product and community.
  • For approved, eligible events, support may include Codex and API credits for attendees, food and drink, hackathon prizes, and custom event swag where possible.
  • Invitations or tickets to official OpenAI events, such as DevDay and Builder Lounges, may be available but aren’t guaranteed.
  • Professional brand-building opportunities and recognition as a leader in your local tech community through your association with OpenAI.
  • Regular office hours with the Developer Experience Community team.
  • Exclusive Codex Ambassador swag.

Frequently asked questions

Which Ambassador path should I apply for, and can I contribute to both?

Choose the path that best matches your strengths. Event Ambassadors organize local Codex meetups, workshops, or hackathons. Content Ambassadors create educational or inspiring content, such as tutorials, demos, or posts about Codex and OpenAI product releases. You can contribute across both areas once you’re in the program.

Can students apply?

At this time, we are not accepting applications from students for the Codex Ambassador program. We recommend our Student Collective program (opens in a new tab) instead.

Do I need experience hosting events?

Prior experience hosting local events is preferred, especially events for 50 or more attendees. Please share links to past event pages or recaps in your application.

What counts as a monthly contribution?

A useful contribution could be a local event or content shared with your community, such as a tutorial, workflow, demo, video, or thoughtful take on a product release. Timely takeaways after major feature and model releases count toward your monthly contribution.

How long is the program?

The program runs for six months. Ambassadors may have the opportunity to renew at the end of the term.

Can I apply if there are already Codex events or groups where I live?

Yes. Acceptance may depend on local demand and existing Ambassador coverage in your area.

Is the program paid?

No. The program is voluntary and unpaid. Ambassadors receive program support, credits, swag, and other opportunities.
