Use multiple workspaces

Each workspace has one plan type and its own members, settings, and content. Different plan types require separate workspaces.

Choose a primary workspace for each team’s shared work. Give workspaces clear names and tell members when to use each one.

  1. In ChatGPT on the web, open your profile menu and select a workspace. On mobile, use the sidebar.

  2. Confirm the intended workspace is active before opening or creating work.

Common scenarios

When this happens What to do or tell users
Team members use different workspaces and need to collaborate Check the feature’s sharing options and confirm that all collaborators can access the shared work.
A user cannot find a chat, file, or shared resource Ask them to switch to the workspace where the work was created. Switching workspaces does not transfer content.
A user cannot see a workspace Verify they signed in with the correct account, then confirm their invitation or provisioning status.
A model or feature is available in one workspace but missing in another Check the active workspace’s plan and permissions. Tell users which workspace to use. Extra credits do not automatically enable every model or feature.
A user reaches a usage limit Review that workspace’s allowance and spending controls. Explain the available options under the institution’s plan.
A researcher wants to join another Academic Researchers workspace Explain that a verified email can belong to only one researcher workspace at a time. Confirm the appropriate setup path before changing access.
A district wants to claim its domain Review existing Teachers workspaces and coordinate with the workspace owners before claiming the domain because the claim can affect access.
