Description

Kiln is a tactile ceramics storefront built with Codex and GPT-5.6. It combines an eight-piece catalog and local cart with a draggable 3D cup whose glaze updates instantly.

Build notes

Initial prompt

Build “Kiln,” a small contemporary ceramics storefront. Create a believable catalog with about eight pieces, product cards, product-detail views, glaze choices, a local cart, and an editorial section explaining the firing process. Use warm clay colors, restrained typography, natural light, and tactile close-up imagery.

The signature interaction should be a single 3D cup turning slowly on a pottery wheel in the hero or featured-product section. Users can drag to rotate it and choose glaze swatches that update its material immediately. During the making-process section, animate the same object from raw clay to glazed and fired ceramic as the user scrolls. Keep the rest of the commerce experience simple and familiar.

Generate original imagery if available. No backend or real payment flow is required. Make the experience responsive, add reduced-motion behavior, run build and lint, and verify product browsing, glaze selection, and cart behavior in the browser.

Iterations

  1. Built the eight-piece catalog, product views, persistent cart, original product imagery, and interactive WebGL cup with drag rotation and live glaze selection.

  2. Reworked the 3D object into a believable hollow mug with a thick rim, curved handle, clay foot, throwing-line relief, glaze speckles, and glaze-specific surface properties.

  3. Removed the firing-process section and its navigation so the catalog flows directly into the journal content.

  4. Refined the mug with layered glaze detail, handmade asymmetry, a cleaner handle, studio reflections, stronger grounding, a detailed pottery wheel, and higher-resolution rendering.

  5. Final step

Finished an elevated ceramics shop with a tactile eight-piece catalog, polished interactive mug, three live glazes, and a responsive persistent cart.
